Appealing to the masses has never been my thing when it comes to photography (or anything, really, but I’m trying to stay focused here). In fact, a lot of people don’t really get why I like to take pictures of shelves in bathrooms and that’s okay with me because I’m not doing it for them. Photography has always been something that I’ve done for me. Call it a journey, a static documentation of my life, an experiment, a lesson in the way my eyes work, a spiritual endeavour…whatever, It’s just the way it is.
Of course the idea of doing it for myself leads people to ask the “then why do you display?

.your post got me thinking ab
.your post got me thinking about this one, and you're right. i wouldn't be comfortable selling a photograph that i wasn't pleased with, or that i had any sort of reservations about as far as my motivation for creating it. like any other expression of creation, photography is empty without the artist being truthful to themselves, and if your output happens to appeal to someone else, well, awesome.
.however, i AM willing to go against what i feel inclined to do at times to explore new avenues of technique. i've stumbled across new tricks and interests by actively going against my instincts while taking photos, and occasionally i'll take away a bit of knowledge from the experience that has advanced me in my learning and expression.
