The Wonderful World of Lomography

Posted Jan 18, 2006 by static

I wrote awhile back about the super cool society of lomography, their 10 golden rules and what a cool scene they've got going on over on their website.

If you'll remember I also added a little, "boy I'd love to get one for Christmas" line at the end and I'm pleased as punch to say that my husband was way ahead of me and had already sent in his order to Russia and my wonderful, little lomo lc-a arrived on Christmas Eve and hasn't been out of reach since.

If you, like me, desire a new challenge you have got to get your hands on one of these old-school cams. It's crazy hard to focus and setting your aperture? forget it. Even the handbook says that. But I've been taking it on and shooting like crazy and finally some of my shots are coming out clear!

In order to get out of my regular shooting rut I've been attempting some of the lomo missions. Every few months they email out a task, as well as post it on their site, in which to challenge you in a new photographic genre and beat out all the other lomographers.

This months mission is "Animal Kingdom". They have this to say:
Here the creatures reign supreme - from doggy dogs to crazy cats to big birds to timid turtles, to bashful boars, to charming cows, to roaring rhinos, to fickle fish, and all of the other little critters in between."

Now let it be known, I'm not much of an animal photographer. Once I even declined a request to shoot 4 cats and a horse. But for the sake of lomography, I'm going for it!

Even if you don't have a lomo, following these missions is a good way to try something new. And if you do have one, submit you're best shots here. Oh, and did I fail to mention that the winner gets a totally cool prize pack? This month's is a tremendous trio of the sexy Colette Fisheye, the tempting Ice Bear Colorsplash, and the sleek X-pro Colorsplash!

Some other awesome Lomography sites that are VERY worth checking out.
