As is obvious by the date etched into my first real blog post on this site (July 11, 2005) I'm relatively new to this whole online world and blogging thing. In fact, approximately 6 days, 17 hours and 43 minutes before that first blog post on July 11, 2005 I can be quoted as saying, "I will never in my life have a blog."
ahem. Yes, I've come a long way.

So far have I come that I've been asked (and agreed) to speak at Northern Voice 2006. Northern Voice is a community-based blogging and personal publishing conference here in Vancouver. The idea and goals behind it are to learn more about social, cultural and technological aspects of blogging, to exchange ideas about improving our weblogs, to network, make new friends, influence people and a whole bunch more.
According to the Northern Voice site, last years conference was a big success so this year they've extended it to 2 days so as to cover more ground. I'm still slightly skeptical on it being a big geek fest though they try to shatter this illusion by having, "Will Northern Voice just be another geek fest?" in their FAQ section.
"No," they say, "only a small portion of our program is technical, with much of the focus on social and cultural aspects of blogging. Also, the attendance at most geek conferences is predominantly male. At last year’s Northern Voice over 40% of attendees were women and 20% were new to blogging."
Kris is one of the organizers of this event and will also be doing a little photocamp during the friday session.

I'll be speaking on a panel, along with two other local bloggers, about blogging and hobbies.

While I prefer to think of this site and my photography as more of a passion than a hobby I wouldn't want to get all technical about that or I'll have to start defending myself in my FAQ section, "No, I am not a geek. A geek would give statistics about just how not geeky they are and I'm not gonna do that. I just like to write and take pictures. "
If you're planning to attend - I'll see you there!

I've been blogging only sligh
I've been blogging only slightly longer than you Rhonda. I too will be at Northern Voice, on the Saturday. I like the mini photo thing, is this an all day thing on the Friday, could I join in say on Friday night? I look forward to your panel. I think it's a smart move by the organisers to get some people/bloggers there who widen the whole discussion beyond the geek!
I think you should too!
I think you should too!
Thanks very much for speaking
Thanks very much for speaking on one of our panels--we appreciate it. Indeed, we struggled with the whole title of that badboy. Actually, I kind of like 'Passions' better. I think we should change it.
