The next big trip for Static Photography was traveling down to the southern section of Austin, Texas for the yearly festival of South by Southwest . SXSW includes four days of Interactive and Film followed by four final days of Music .
Kris was there for the whole festival, taking pictures of the participants of Interactive as well as photographing bands at their live performances during the Music section. Having previously been published in the LA Times , Kris' candid portraits of Interactive were chosen for a few selections of the 2009 Times coverage of SXSWi.
Static Photography was lucky enough to set-up some shoots for band publicity shots with acts like Hey Ocean , Lady Sovereign , Ebony Bones and Datarock . Some of the live performances that were shot were The Decemberists , The Riverboat Gamblers , I love you but I've chosen darkness , Delhi to Dublin , Astronautalis , Mother Mother , The Avett Brothers , Beach house , prolific street artist Shepard Fairey ’s first ever DJ set and many others. With over 1900 bands playing during the Music portion, there were a lot of amazing acts from the world to choose from.
Kris also had the opprotunity of not only shooting live concert photography but jumping in front of the video camera and capturing some amazing footage of artists in interviews and performing. He had the opprotunity to interview Datarock for SXRadio and captured some great footage of Astronautalis doing a freestyle on Twittersex .
