Static Photography had the opportunity to be a part of the third Social Media Clubhouse during the SXSW festival this year in Austin, Texas. The SMCH was presented by Kristie Wells and Chris Heuer, who are the founders of the Social Media Club. The idea behind the clubhouse started off as alternate housing for conferences and moved towards a visionary shared space that included alternative summits, tweetups and performances.

The Social Media Club was founded around the motto 'If you get it, share it' which has translated into hundreds of SMC chapters forming around the world with that one sole purpose. These chapters form collectives around teaching new media literacy skills and form communities around the constant evolving space of social media. During the SXSW conference the SMC launched their new website with a new membership service to connect the international chapters into one digital space to share knowledge and forge a worldwide message board of new media skills. Static Photography has joined the membership ranks!

Located on the edge of the beautiful Lake Austin, the SXSW 2010 Social Media Clubhouse was a full media station during the entire SXSW festival. During the Interactive section of SXSW, the club house was host to a daily recap show by the Tech Zulu crew from LA, as well as daily performances from bands showcased from the Austin radio station KUT 90.5 and three different all-day conferences including the Synaptic Web Summit and the Co-Working Summit. During the Music portion of SXSW, the clubhouse was a bit quieter but housed musical performances by Kole Christensen and networking events with the people involved with the Social Strip community from downtown LA.

The clubhouse could not have been an active thought without the help of awesome additional elements and sponsors. Alcohol was provided by Molson Coors, refreshments by Coco-Cola, in-house tech was provided by Tech Zulu and streaming video was supported by Justin.tv for all the various events during the week. By far the best best additional to the whole SXSW experience as the SMC party bus that shuttled people to and from the house during the day, while doubling as a party limo in the evening party adventures. The karaoke on the plush purple lined bus brought the whole house together.

Our friends at Gowalla were stoked to make a special SXSW icon for the Social Media Clubhouse!
If you missed out on this awesome experience, here is a photographic recap of the Social Media Clubhouse from SXSW 2010 in Austin, TX:

All the residents in the house received a welcome bag full of goodies courtesy of Bottom Line Law Group in San Francisco, CA. Some of the much needed items were an energy drink, gum, a rain poncho and eye drops.

Often the central focus of the house, the Social Media Clubhouse kitchen acted as meeting space, work desks, and dining room table.

It was always a new media geek fest at the Social Media Clubhouse with vistors including Nic Adler from the Roxy Theatre, Werner Vogels from Amazon.com and Amanda Koster from Salaam Garage.

There were many karaoke hours logged on the Social Media Party Bus. Jeremy Tanner is crooning away to a jam while the bus travelled through downtown Austin.

Cyborg anthropologist Amber Case is a good friend of many of the residents of the Social Media Clubhouse. Amber had a bad fall during the SXSW Festival and broke her leg in three places. There is a Cyborg Reconstruction Fund set up to help her pay for her medical bills.
