It is that time of year again! The cold weather is coming with less frequency, the flowers are starting their journey to the topsoil and the geeks are starting to prepare for their yearly pilgrimage to Austin, TX. For a few weeks every March, the small independent city of Austin, TX is turned into a heavenly setting of geeks, technology and general debauchery with the annual South by South West Festival. This 12 day event is the setting for history making, whether it is in debuting new awesome technology or partying with your favourite twitter followers. The festival is split into three parts: SXSW Interactive, SXSW Film and SXSW Music. Welcome to the world of geeks, movies and rockstars.
The 2011 SXSW festival is sure to be a rocking' good time like no other. Static Photography photographer Kris Krüg will be kicking off the Interactive event as a panelist on the 'How to Rock SXSWi' Panel which will include tips/advice for newbies and veterans of the festival. Before the festival even starts we will also be opening a few cans of Whoopass while road-tripping with the Jones Soda RV with fellow geeks Melissa Pierce, Rachel Fredericks and maybe even a MMA fighter! Once in Austin Kris will be buzzing around photographing panels and events like the Samsung Techset Lounge with Brian Solis and Stephanie Agresta , which will be a great space for some chill networking time. Definitely put all of these things on SXSW schedules.
SXSW Interactive is always a crazy busy time in Austin, TX. Last year the highlights were the Gowalla Mobile Social Bike Ride with Bikehugger, the SXSWi Tiki Party with Diplo and the Alltop Girl + Guy Cowboy Party. In addition to the normal scheduling of the Interactive section of the festival, the place to be was the Social Media Clubhouse located on Lake Austin. This palatial mansion was hosted by Kristie Wells and Chris Heuer and included scheduling of daily mini-conferences, video podcasts and special parties. There was even a Social Media Clubhouse shuttle bus which at night turned into a wild party caravan.
Like previous years photographer Kris Krüg will have his camera in hand during the entire SXSW festival. Many photos will be taken and many photo essays will be curated for a chance to experience this crazy event through the eyes of a camera lens. Whether it is candids of geeks or editorials of bands performing, there won’t be a second that is missed (maybe a few seconds until we can learn to duplicate ourselves!).
