The weather is dropping quicker than the leaves can fall in Vancouver, BC but that hasn't stopped Static Photography from venturing out into the cold for awesome events. Photographer Kris Krüg has literally been everywhere this past year including Bolivia for the World People's Conference on Climate Change, Louisiana to document the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and even Manchester, UK for the AND Festival. This late in the year Kris has been spending some quality time in Vancouver, BC which has given him the chance to capture some really interesting events that have happened around town.
Whether it's music, fashion, portraits or events - Kris is right there, front and centre with his camera. Here is a brief photographic recap of the cold weather weeks with Static Photography!
Capturing the live energy and the infectious personalities of musicians is one of Kris' specialties. Static Photography had a chance to catch two upcoming dance music acts at the Biltmore Club in Vancouver with the lovely music afficiendo/writer BackstageRider. The glam syth artist known as Diamond Rings is a force to reckoned with. Kris had a few minutes with him before his Vancouver show where Das Humans, a Vancouver dance dream team, opened up for the magically colourful artist.

350.org eARTh Photo Project - November 21st
350.org is an awesome international campaign that works to teach the global community about climate change and the impact of carbon on our environments. Kris had the opportunity to work with them when he documented the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Copehagen in December 2009. This year they have launched the 350 eARTh Project to create exciting visuals about how we are impacting our world currently. The project documents aerial style photography from cities around the world. Vancouver came together and created their own event for the eARTh Project.

Rebull Megahurtz Party - W2 Woodwards - November 13th
When it comes to awesome parties, Redbull sure knows how to throw down a big one. Redbull Megahurtz was a star studded lineup event held at the W2 Woodwards building on November 13th. Over six hours of hard driving baselines held a full house dancing and drinking. Kris was the official photographer of the night and was able to capture the excitement of every set, every song and every visual. This was a party that you didn't want to miss.
Vancouver Observer Portrait Shoot - October 12th
It always nice when we get to shoot portraits for friends of Static Photography that are doing awesome things. The team at the Vancouver Observer have always been big supporters of Kris and his work. When the VO wanted to update their team head shots, it seemed like a perfect fit for Kris to shoot them. The Vancouver Observer is the passion project of Vancouver based writer Linda Solomon.

Youngunz Photo Shoot - Waldorf Hotel - October 26th
Sometimes we at Static Photography get to have some fun with inspiring creative fashion shoots. Some of the youth from the Purple Thistle came together with their creative minds and organized a super fun fashion afternoon. Shot partly at the Static Photography studio in Gastown and then partly at the newly renovated Waldorf Hotel, this photo shoot was laid back, adventurous and just plain fun.

East Vancouver Sunrise - October 29th
Kris has done some work for the Vancouver Biennale which is an organization that works to keep Vancouver full of amazing international large scale installations. As a small side project Kris travelled around with some other Vancouver photographers during the first breaking hours of morning sunlight to document the beauties of east Vancouver. As a special highlight Kris was able to make this images HDRs which adds a surreal feel to the sunrise light places.

It is really amazing the different ways that art can be showcased nowadays. Vancouver artist Vince Dumoulin was selected as a solo artist for a specialty show held in Nanaimo, just off the coast of Vancouver. The creative twist in this show was that Vince's canvas for all of his art was the inside of a brand new loft and the art show was the very opening of the loft to the public and housing market. Each room of the space held a different piece by Vince that with the rest of the loft's aesthetic and furnishings. Kris had a chance to capture some of the artwork before the whole loft was released to the public. This is not Kris' first time shooting Vince's art - Vince was the mastermind behind the Beatty Street mural.

The beginning of the winter months may be cold but there is never a dull moment with the studio happening at Static Photography. Make sure to check back and see what else Kris is capturing with his camera!
