So Static Photography has been very busy since we got back from Shanghai, China. We were in Shanghai for two weeks with a schedule booked very full! Kris was shooting photos for his book Chinameme Vol. 1 Shanghai which he is co-authoring with Christine Lu. While in China Kris also spoke at TEDxShanghai and attended BarcampShanghai , which he helped start back in 2006. We also attended Shanghai's and China's first ever Gay Pride Celebration , a Ghostface Killah concert that was promoted by Splitworks Production as well as a few other events. We met new friends, shots hundreds of photos and explored many parts of the 25 million person city, under the burgeoning heat of Shanghai's summer.

Before we left for the other side of the world, we had the chance to do an editorial photo shoot with Vancouver band Fake Shark Real Zombie! . This goth-punk/horror influenced band are a force to reckoned with and the shoot was super fun. They even attempted a new dance move called the Brotem Pole . We shot some video footage with the band, so keep you eyes opened for that.

The city of Vancouver had its first ever Vancouver Arts Summit on July 25-26, hosted by the Alliance for the Arts and Culture and 2010 Legacies Now . It was a two day conference held at the Vancouver Public Library that had panels and discussions revolving around the local arts/theatre community. Kris was a speaker on a panel called 'New Media, New Tools, New Audiences' along side Miss604 , Rebecca Bollwitt . Kris also interviewed speakers and guest during the conference for his video blog .

Celebrate Pakistan was a one night celebration around the culture, food, music and fashion coming out of Pakistan. Curated by the Consulate General of Pakistan , Celebrate Pakistan was a stellar showcase. Traditional Pakistani Vancouver-based musicians peppered the night with amazing sounds and Pakistani fashion designer Ms. Nilofer Shahid showcased her Empress Noor Jehan & Princess Josephine Collection on the runway. Followed by a traditional Pakistani food gala, this night was truly a celebration.

Kris is a photographer that shoots a range of subjects, from music to portraits to locations to fashion editorials! He had the opportunity to work with Vancouver based-outerwear clothing company Arson in shooting their Spring 2010 catalog. This isn't the first time that Kris has shot an Arson catalog; he is considered an 'Arsonist ' which is a creative individual that is part of the Arson family. Kris has shot 9 catalogs for the company. Impressive!

Nuba is a local restaurant with an international menu and a home style feeling dining room. Composed of traditional Lebanese cuisine, Nuba has two locations in the city of Vancouver, with the larger of the two right on the edge of Gastown. Kris did a photo shoot of the interior of the restaurant for an upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympics -related restaurant guide. Local, yummy and healthy food.

Shooting portraits can create a variety of images depending on the company that wants the photos. It is always fun to work with a company that wants great photos and is willing to have fun getting them. Kris shot some portraits for Healthcastle which is an online nutrition community with nutritional advice from registered dietitians. The owners, Gloria Tsang and Ian Lee , loved the idea of heading to the Strathcona Community Gardens to get some great portraits outside. The afternoon was full of bright sunshine and the gardens provided the perfect background.

Shooting bands can be a lot of fun, whether it is live concert shooting or editorial photo shoots. We shot an editorial style photo shoot with 7 piece Vancouver band The Heard . They were influenced by the movie The Warriors for their 80s gang stylized shoot. Their outfits were amazing, with hair and makeup and shooting in the back alleys of Gastown provided the perfect backdrop.

As an artist at Static Photography, Kris not only creates art but also works towards foster art growth in the public arena for the city of Vancouver. Kris sits on the advisory committee of the Vancouver Biennale which is an organization that brings international artists and their art to public spaces in Vancouver. The next time you see an impressively large sculpture in downtown Vancouver, you can probably thank the hard work of the Vancouver Biennale.
